Meet Alex

Born in Prince William County and raised in Spotsylvania VA, Alex grew up around family and community. He was raised by his incredibly soulful grandparents, who both had a tremendous love for dancing and music. From the sounds of jazz, soul, rock, and funk, he was inspired and made music and dancing a part of his everyday life. All of the music and art that influenced him brought a lot of diversity into his life, along with exposing him to different cultures and backgrounds. Through that, he gained love for himself and for all human beings.

Alex knew he wanted to be an artist and he felt called to share his creative expression with the community, and hopefully the world one day. Alex faced many hardships and struggles, such as developing different learning challenges, being put out of school, and dealing with severe anxiety and depression that would even lead him to thoughts of suicide.
There was only one thing that kept him going and that was art. Whether trying a new dance, playing a new instrument, or talking and meeting new people,  it gave Alex the ability to re-create himself and appreciate life for what it is.

Inspired by his older brother George who passed away in 2013, Alex took his advice, which was to run with his passion of bringing youth together in a positive way, and start his organization FREE BY RUNNING. He hasn’t looked back since.
Alex organized his first art show through his organization on April 16th, 2015 And dedicated it to the memory of his older brother George.

Since then, Alex has curated and organized events with John J Wright Cultural Center and Museum, The King George NAACP,  The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, & The Fredericksburg Center for Creative Arts.

Through his organization, Alex is mentor, an event curator, yoga/dance teacher, performer, and friend to anyone who ever comes to an FREE BY RUNNING event or gathering.
